I’ve decided to start this blog with the sole purpose to encourage you through God’s word. Oftentimes, I find it hard to express myself when I speak, so, through my writing I hope I am able to share my journey in Christ. God is still working in me in many areas of my life. When God gave me the idea to start this blog I didn’t feel adequate enough. Who am I to encourage? But it is not me, it will be God’s Word that will encourage you. And me, too.
I plan to share with you what I’ve learned on this walk thus far, and I know there is still a lot more to learn. This blog is for those that are walking with God and need a little push to keep taking that next step (we all need this from time to time), but it is also for those that haven’t taken that first step to walk with Jesus. If you have heard of Jesus, if you have been rejected or hurt by a church in the past, if you stopped taking those steps with Jesus, or if you haven’t heard of him, this is for you. You may have clicked on this out of “curiosity” but that curiosity is no coincidence for God. If you have felt lost, like your life has no meaning or if you have accomplishments in this world but feel a void, keep on reading….
The truth is that without God there is no real true meaning to life. That statement may sound a little strong and bold, but it is the reality. And it is why there is so much depression, violence, and evil in this world. Even all the wealth and accomplishments cannot satisfy our soul. Because there will still be something missing, that something is Jesus, knowing Him and having a relationship with Him… our one and only savior.
Solomon is the greatest example in the Bible. He had wealth, women, and wisdom, etc… The Bible says that whatever his eyes desired, he did not keep from them (Ecclasiates 2:10 NKJV). He basically went after whatever he wanted and had it all, but in the end he hated life and found no meaning in life, because he turned his heart from the One that gave it meaning.
Don’t get me wrong, life is a beautiful thing, but when we make this life our sole purpose we won’t be satisfied. Why?
The answer is found in Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NJKV)
He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
This world is not our final destination and our hearts know that. This is why nothing in this world can fully satisfy us. The satisfactions of this world are temporary, and won’t be able to fill the void that comes lurking after the feeling of accomplishment is gone. When we are not satisfied, we keep on searching for more… more accomplishments, more money, more work, more and more and it becomes a never ending cycle.
I am by no means saying that we shouldn’t have goals in life and not feel happy or proud of our accomplishments. It is great to be driven and focused on what you want, but don’t make it your only purpose in life. And don’t forget to include God in those things that you want, always remembering your final destination… The time we spend in this world doesn’t compare to ETERNITY and your heart knows that.
Before knowing Jesus, I remember there were multiple times when I was with my family and we were all together having a great time, everyone was happy, but, even through that happiness, I still felt a void, like something was missing… at the time I didn’t understand why I felt like that. But now I know and thank God that He has filled that void. Since I have known God, I haven’t felt that void. He wants to fill that void in you too…
If you’ve only heard of Him but don’t know Him, I pray that today you are encouraged to know Him. Or if you once knew Him, but walked away, for whatever reason, it is never too late. He is the only one that can give you the satisfaction or meaning in life that you have been looking for.
I hope and pray that you decide to take an everyday step with Jesus and that the void be satisfied in knowing Him, I encourage you to repeat this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I realize that I need you in my life… I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that the Father sent his one and only son to die on the cross for my sins and that God raised Him from the dead. I pray that you forgive me for my sins and I invite you Holy Spirit to abide in my heart and lead me and guide me, to show me my purpose and help me to remain in you. I ask you Lord to write my name in the book of Life and that your Word may never depart from my heart and mouth. In Jesus name, Amen.
